January Newsletter

22nd January 2015
Dear Parents,

Please note the following important items;

Parking
It is extremely dangerous at the school gate in the mornings and especially in the evenings. There is plenty of room for parking down past the school and we are appealing to you to park your car and walk to the gate to collect your child. In the interest of safety, please refrain from pulling up outside the school in the middle of the road for dropping off and collecting children. Some children run straight out onto the road once they see their car without looking up or down and we are terrified a child will be injured some day. Children up to 4th class must be collected from gate. Please pass on this message to anyone who may be collecting your children. It is in everyone’s interest to make an effort to protect the safety of all the children.

Swimming
Swimming lessons commence on 10th February for 8 weeks in Sean Tracey’s Memorial Swimming Pool, Tipperary. All children in 2nd – 6th classes will participate as part of their PE curriculum. The total fee is €40 per child and it can be brought into school before the 6th Feb. Thanks also to the Parents Council who will fund the bus fare for the duration of the 8 weeks.

Grandparent’s Day
Our annual Grandparent’s Day will be held on Wednesday 28th January at 1pm, as part of Catholic School’s Week celebrations. This is always a very special and enjoyable day for grandparents and for the children too and we look forward to seeing everyone again this year!

Silver Circle
Sincere thanks for supporting the school “Silver Circle” Draw, it raised €2826.

Building Extension : School Extension update
Planning has been submitted to the County Council for our building works and the site notice is up on the pole outside the school gate. We are currently looking for extra money from the Department to upgrade the old school building and hopefully we will have news of this shortly.

Open Day
An Open Day will be held on Saturday 7th February at 1pm.
Parents are very welcome to come along with their child and meet the class teacher, Ms Denise Fletcher and Ms Sandra O’ Dwyer, Principal. It will be an opportunity to visit the school, have a look around and meet new friends. If you know of any families who would be interested in sending their child to Barna NS, please tell them about our Open Day!
