In 2012, we updated our school crest. The children thought about the important symbols they would like to include in their school crest which they felt would give a true reflection of their school life in Barna NS and subsequently came up with this design which we are very proud of. The crest represents different aspects from our school and community.
Barna N.S. ~( Scoil na mBearnan) was built in 1929.
The gaelic word ‘Bearna’ means ‘gap’. The dove flying over the ‘gap’ symbolises the name of our school and local community.
The book represents all academic learning and the music symbol represents the pupils’ love of music, drama and arts in school.
The hurleys and football represent Gaelic sport in our school which the pupils are very involved in and passionate about.
On the bottom right of the crest is Patrick Sarsfield, our local historical figure.
Finally, St. Brigid’s cross in the middle of the crest symbolises our local church, St.Brigid’s Church, Templebraden..
