This is our C.O.W. initiative (Cycle on Wednesday) where students from Juniors to Sixth Class were allowed to bring in their bikes. Juniors to First class students cycled their bikes in the yard while the Second to Sixth Class were taken on a supervised cycle in the locality.
ASW Activities
During ASW we also tried some Yoga, which is a type of exercise where you move your body into different positions. Yoga helps you to become more fit and flexible but it also helps you to focus on your breathing and relax your mind.

Active School: Running Initiative 2017
Children from Ms.O’Dwyer’s Class measuring the field to find its exact perimeter before beginning the whole school Running Initiative. It was an excellent way for the children to incorporate some physical activity into their everyday Maths work!
The Active School Committee launched their Running Initiative in 2017. The pupils of Barna NS decided to run from Thomond Park Limerick to Croke Park Dublin! That’s a distance of 221km! It was a whole school running challenge and every pupil worked together to add up all their kilometres to run from Limerick to Dublin. Over 6 weeks the pupils of Barna NS ran at every opportunity and added their distances together to complete their running challenge! Congratulations Barna!
Wake Up Shake Up
Each morning before school, the children participated in Wake Up Shake Up. We found these exercises helped us to improve our concentration and also made us feel great! This was a fantastic start to the day!
Certificate Presentation
At the end of ASW the children were delighted to have their certificates presented to them by Colin Ryan, a member of the Limerick U21 hurling team . A great end to a fantastic week.
We are already looking forward to ASW 2018!!
